Word on the street is that Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is the place to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Latin America. I mean, look at this. How could it not be the place to be tonight?

While February’s Carnaval is Rio’s claim to fame, those who have celebrated New Year’s on its beaches say that Brazil’s second most popular holiday should definitely not be overlooked. In addition to enjoying an elaborate fireworks display at midnight, Brazilians also throw champagne and roses into the ocean as an offering to the goddess of the sea.

Of course, if you woke up every day looking at beaches like this, you’d probably want to give thanks to the goddess of the sea too. Feliz Ano Novo!
